A Preliminary Study On The Inclination And Shape Of Jets Issuing From An Orifice In The Lateral Wall Of A Pipe

The topic of the behaviour jets issuing from an orifice in lateral wall a pipe is interest many engineering fields, such as sea discharges pollutants via submerged pipes, diffusers to mix different fluids tanks and reactors, leakage industrial civil pipelines, etc. Most previous researches focuses on pressure loss across orifice, without taking into account modification internal flow and, most important, direction shape jet outlet: matter fact, this usually considered perpendicular axis axisymmetric. We have investigated these issues laboratory Digital Image Analysis techniques, namely LIF (Laser Induced Fluorescence) measure concentration fields FTV (Feature Tracking Velocimetry) velocity varying ratio rate before orifice. Here we present some preliminary results, highlighting how not always nor axisymmetric: inclination increases axisymmetry decreases when rates above described decreases.
